‘What a downgrade’: Some West Ham fans react to links £96k-a-week PL player

West Ham have reportedly held talks with Chelsea about Ross Barkley – and some Hammers fans on Twitter are not happy with the news.

, Hammers boss David Moyes is interested in signing the 27-year-old after working with him at Everton.

It is understood that Barkley is someone Chelsea will allow to leave during the current window due to the depth in their squad.

The report explains West Ham still hope to sign Jesse Lingard from Manchester United, but Barkley is emerging as an alternative.

West Ham fans want to stay clear of Barkley

A selection of West Ham supporters on social media are sure Barkley would be the wrong signing for them, so are urging the club to avoid.

The Englishman is a box-to-box midfielder that on his day can be quality, so there is certainly a temptation now he’s available.

However, his loan spell at Aston Villa last season went quiet after a promising start.

Also, it’s been difficult living up to the hype since bursting onto the scene with Everton as a youngster.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens with him this summer because he has two year left on his deal.
