Weston McKennie’s plans for the future must interest Liverpool

Schalke 04 utility player Weston McKennie has made some comments in the press this week that should have Liverpool fans interested.

The USA international has been discussing his future at the German club where he is clearly happy to remain for the time being. However, in the long-term, he sees himself playing for a top English Premier League club who are challenging in Europe.

“For me, the next goal is England. It has always been my dream to play in the Premier League.

“I want to join a club that fights for a place in Europe – the Champions League or the Europa League. For now, I’m happy at Schalke because I get to play.”

Which should be alerting the interest of Liverpool.

The Reds have reportedly been keeping tabs on the player for some time.

in January 2019, Jurgen Klopp is a fan of the player, and a previous £20 million move has been considered for the player.

His versatility also makes him a very Klopp-like signing. McKennie can play in a number of positions, including centre-midfield and at full-back.

Indeed, it could be suggested he would be a perfect replacement for James Milner, whenever the evergreen Yorkshireman starts to dwindle at Anfield.

McKennie is just 21 and signed a new deal at Schalke just last year which could keep him at the Veltins Arena until the summer of 2024, so there is still plenty of time in Germany ahead for the dynamic American.

But should Liverpool decide to follow up on any previous interest, then McKennie would clearly be interested in making the move.
