West Ham’s Said Benrahma deal follows in successful David Moyes transfer pattern
West Ham United concluded their transfer business yesterday with the signature of Said Benrahma from Championship side Brentford.
The creative Algerian has arrived on an initial £5 million loan, which will rise to £25 million when West Ham are obligated to buy him permanently.
It looks like another good piece of business for the Hammers and one that follows in a well-known path of success when it comes to their manager David Moyes.
Moyes’ most successful years were as Everton boss and some of the key players under his management at Goodison Park were those with huge experience in the Championship.
The likes of Phil Jagielka, Joleon Lescott and Tim Cahill all arrived having played most of their football in the second tier with Sheffield United, Wolves and Millwall respectively.
All three were key players for Moyes and having an eye for and given a chance to a player destined for football in the second tier has often been a major positive for the Everton boss.
Benrahma now joins Jarrod Bowen, another player plucked from the Championship in forming West Ham’s wide attack and it will be no surprise if both became irreplaceable at West Ham under Moyes’ management.
It would also be no surprise if this is not the last time Moyes and West Ham look to the second-tier to improve their squad.
