West Ham’s Aaron Cresswell opens up on free kick success and Andriy Yarmolenko
West Ham United defender Aaron Cresswell grabbed his chance upon his return to the first team with a goal and a clean sheet against Manchester United, before following it up with another strike against Bournemouth on Saturday.
As Cresswell said he had to wait for free kick duties to come his way and shared his Andriy Yarmolenko’s reaction when he placed the ball down against the Red Devils.
He : “I’d had one ten minutes before and it was pretty close. I stepped up to the second one and wanted to take it. Yarma came up, he looked at me and said ‘Really? Are you going to take it?’ and we laughed about it.
“I’ve always fancied by myself from a dead-ball situation. Back at Tranmere, then Ipswich, I scored a few, and I’ve scored a couple for West Ham. I have practised the skill since a young age and I always fancy myself to hit the target. If another one comes along on Saturday, hopefully I’ll take it again.”

TBR’s View – Cresswell has taken his chance back in the side as well as possible
Arthur Masuaku had made an impressive start to the season but his dismissal against Aston Villa handed Cresswell an opportunity to force his way back into Manuel Pellegrini’s plans.
He took it with a fantastic performance against United, topped off with an eye-catching goal and carried it on against the Cherries last weekend.
Now, he’s the man in possession of the shirt and if he keeps performing this way, he will keep it.
