West Ham: Youngster in demand; Valencia update; rejection from Milan starlet
One of the revelations of last season was young English midfielder Reece Oxford. His 12 first-team appearances did not go unnoticed though, and the claim that Tottenham, alongside both Manchester clubs, are said to be monitoring the 17-year-old with the intention of making a £15 million move.
Red Bull Leipzig have apparently already had a £10 million bid rejected, and Slaven Bilic and West Ham coaches are said to rate Oxford highly and will be reluctant to let him go at any price. They may be persuaded should Oxford reject the club’s offers of a new and improved contract with only two years left on his current deal, but Oxford could well be the key man in West Ham’s team for years to come if they can persuade the England under 19s star to remain at the Olympic Stadium.
Enner Valencia’s future seems destined not to be with The Hammers at the end of this transfer window, and he appears to be at the centre of a bidding war. The report that Lazio have now upped their offer to £10.9 million after their initial bid was rejected by the club, but claim that Swansea have made a £10 million offer, with a further £3 million in variables.
Given that the Hammers paid out £12 million to sign the Ecuadorian before two seasons of disappointing return, they will be hoping to at least recoup their money, but will be very tempted to accept one of these offers. With a big-money striker signing seeming likely at West Ham this summer, either of these offers will help fund that move for a player who played just a bit part role at best last season.
AC Milan striker M’Baye Niang is said to have turned down moves to both West Ham and Everton, according to . Whilst the 21-year-old does not hide the ambition of one day playing in England, he has instead decided to focus on his current club and work his way to becoming a regular at AC Milan, rather than moving to England to sit on the bench for one of the two aforementioned clubs.
Niang has undoubted potential and could well represent a different approach from West Ham in their hunt for a striker, but he has never seemed a key target for Sullivan and Gold, so such a rejection is unlikely to be a major blow for them.
Niang’s teammate Carlos Bacca has also been heavily linked with a move to London this summer, at the heart of a £25 million move. The Sun claim that they expect to have an answer from the Colombian soon, but are unsure of whether he will be keen on a move or not. Bacca is reportedly demanding the same wage as Dimitri Payet, £100,000 a week, but the club have so far only offered £80,000 a week.
It seems that the club could well be pushed into making such an offer, particularly after various other rejections from other high profile stars, but there could well be cheaper alternatives on the market for the East London club, and they may begrudge being rushed into making big money offers for anyone, although they will want to get a striker signed up as soon as possible with their Europa League campaign kicking off in the coming weeks.
