West Ham would rather sign ‘brilliant’ £26m forward over Serhou Guirassy in January now

West Ham United would reportedly prefer to sign Ajax forward Steven Bergwijn over Serhou Guirassy in January.

That’s according to The Athletic, with the outlet claiming that Steven Bergwijn is favoured due to his previous Premier League experience.

West Ham currently make up the top six after a promising first-half of the campaign under David Moyes.

The Scotsman has received plenty of criticism over his style of play. But he continues to deliver results for the Hammers.

He will undoubtedly be keen to bolster his squad before the end of the month, with West Ham bidding to continue their run in the Europa League while competing for a top-six finish in the league.

One man who has been linked with a surprise move to the London Stadium is former Tottenham star Bergwijn.

Indeed, Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Saturday that West Ham do hold an interest in snapping up Bergwijn.

And despite being linked with a move for Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy, it seems that West Ham prefer the idea of snapping up the Ajax forward instead.

reports that West Ham have been linked with a move for Guirassy this month. But due to Bergwijn’s previous Premier League experience, he’s the preferred option.

Nevertheless, the Hammers will have to offload an attacking player or two to move for the Ajax star.

It’s noted that Said Benrahma, Maxwel Cornet and Pablo Fornals are among the players who could be sold.

Bergwijn completed a switch to Ajax last summer after a two-and-a-half-year spell at Spurs.

The Dutchman netted eight times and provided 10 assists in 83 appearances for West Ham’s London rivals.

He’s enjoying a fairly decent season at Ajax and has registered 11 goal contributions in 20 games, despite the Dutch giants’ struggles.

Bergwijn has been labelled a ‘brilliant’ player and would be an intriguing option for Moyes. The 26-year-old hasn’t quite lived up to his potential as of yet, despite some flashes of brilliance in a Spurs shirt.

He’d certainly provide Moyes with another decent option though and is capable of playing across the frontline.
