West Ham winger Felipe Anderson has to be under scrutiny for goal drought
West Ham’s Felipe Anderson cost a huge £36million () to sign last summer and right now he looks nowhere near that valuation.
The 25-year-old attacker has nine goals across all competitions during his first season in English football and is on course for a decent first year with the Hammers, but his form has nosedived massively in recent times.
He’s now on an 11-game goal drought in the Premier League and the last time he found the net in the league was a brace against Southampton on 27 December.
It’s not good enough for the Brazilian to have not scored in the league during 2019 and he has a lot of pressure on his shoulders to match his price tag.
Anderson is a skilful left-winger that has lit up the London Stadium at times, but ultimately his success has to be assessed on end product and his season is in danger of fading out.
West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini needs to try lift him to rediscover his form and dropping him for the first time in the league in the next game could be a smart move.
The wide man needs to earn his spot in the XI each match and right now he’s just falling short in the final third.
There is no doubt he’s one of the most talented individuals in the squad, but he needs something to spark a response from him from now until the end of the season and he can’t be exempt from a spot on the bench when he’s struggling.
