Transfers

West Ham will have to wait until last minute before finding out if they can sign £60m striker this month

There is plenty of uncertainty surrounding West Ham United, who have arguably been the biggest underperformers in the Premier League this season.

Graham Potter could replace Julen Lopetegui, who is set to be sacked by West Ham after doing a rather disappointing job of replacing David Moyes.

West Ham sit in 14th place in the Premier League, a season after finishing ninth under Moyes.

Losing nine and drawing five out of their 20 league games this campaign, Julen Lopetegui has failed to elevate a side that made seemingly smart summer additions including Max Kilman, Cryscencio Summerville, Niclas Fullkrug, Luis Guillherme, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Guido Rodriguez on permanent deals.

The loan signings of Jean-Clair Todibo and Carlos Soler also bolstered a Hammers side that seemed to have done the best transfer business out of any English team in the summer.

West Ham given Evan Ferguson signing deadline

West Ham made contact to sign Ferguson on loan, who is also attracting interest from the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle United and Fulham.

have revealed that Brighton will wait until the end of the winter window to decide whether they intend to loan Evan Ferguson out, unintentionally testing the Hammers’ patience in the process.

West Ham only have have Fullkrug and Danny Ings on their books who play up front, with Michail Antonio ruled out for several months due to suffering an unfortunate car crash in Epping last month.

The German international scored in the Irons’ latest 4-1 defeat against Manchester City.

As for Ings, he has started just one game this season and scored his sole league goal in West Ham’s 2-1 win against Manchester United in October.

West Ham target Evan Ferguson’s finishing has been called “phenomenal”

In January last year, as both a character and a finisher.

“I think [he’s] a great lad, first and foremost. Wants to learn, wants to get about, which is so important.”

“He’s in a great place in terms of the club, the manager he’s working with. Senior players he works with, looking at someone like Welbz [Danny Welbeck], how he goes about his business and how he plays. He’s in a great spot.”

Milner added: “His finishing is phenomenal you know, just so good. If a chance is falling, you want it to go to him. He had a chance at West Ham, we were joking about it. He didn’t score but he made it out of nothing, he hit it instinctively.”

West Ham will be hoping that Evan Ferguson, who was compared to Alan Shearer dons claret and blue later this month as his talent has never been in question.
