Celtic’s focus has been on midfielders ever since seeing Matt O’Riley complete a move to Brighton and Hove Albion.
Arne Engels is now close to joining Celtic with a deal now agreed for the Augsburg midfielder.
Celtic have looked into other midfield signings though and have already walked away from a move for LAFC star Mateusz Bogusz.

Irving has become a real goalscoring threat from midfield and he appears to have taken a step forward in his development.
Celtic do have other options though given that West Ham don’t appear too keen on a deal.
It’s suggested that Celtic could make a late move to sign Dundee midfielder Luke McCowan.
The common theme here is that both Irving and McCowan are both Scottish and would count as homegrown for the Champions League.
McCowan, 26, has started this season brilliantly by hitting two goals and one assist in three appearances.
The midfielder is out of contract in 2025 and Celtic may move for him if West Ham don’t budge on Irving’s future.
