West Ham fans react as Hammer of the Year is announced

West Ham United have had a steady 2018/19 campaign. A win on the last day against Watford would even see the Hammers secure a top half finish.

The challenge for Manuel Pellegrini next season is to add to his squad and push the club even further up the league.

After a slow start to his tenure at the London Stadium, the ex-Manchester City boss has revived the club’s fortunes. Given the nature of their start, a top half finish would have to be seen as a successful campaign.

Last night saw the football club celebrate their season. Several accolades were handed out during an awards night for the Hammers.

Felipe Anderson claimed Goal of the Season for a strike against Crystal Palace, Declan Rice claimed Players’ Player of the Year for the third year running and Ajibola Alese won the Dylan Tombides award.

The ultimate accolade, however, is the Hammer of the Year. This season the award went to goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.

The Polish star has kept seven clean sheets for the club but has largely had a sound season between the posts.

Hammers supporters were quick to congratulate their ‘keeper on Twitter and we rounded up the best responses to news of his award.
