West Ham United have posted a throwback on Twitter of Joao Mario scoring one of his two Hammers goals during a 3-0 win over Southampton back in March 2018 – and Hammers fans have responded to Mario’s response.
Mario, 27, joined West Ham on loan during the second half of the 2017-18 campaign from Inter Milan during David Moyes’ first spell in charge. He clocked up 14 appearances during the second half of the season.
The Euro 2016 winner scored twice – once during the win over Southampton and then later on in the season during a 2-0 win over Leicester City, a match in which captain Mark Noble also found the back of the net with a stunning volley.
West Ham posted a throwback of Mario’s goal on Twitter, which showed the former Sporting Lisbon star controlling and then slamming an effort into the roof of the net – despite Alex McCarthy getting a hand to the effort.
An absolute piledriver on the counter! 💥 ⚽️

Mario is enduring a difficult stage in his career after struggling to make it work at Inter. He has since been loaned to Champions League side Lokomotiv Moscow, where he has since scored just one goal in 15 games.
that Inter are willing to accept offers of just £12.5million, but as of yet, the attacker has developed no interest in his services ahead of the summer window. Mario replied to West Ham’s Tweet, and Hammers fans responded, urging him to return to east London.
