‘What a goal’: West Ham fans buzzing with Aaron Cresswell in Manchester United win

West Ham United rose to fifth in the Premier League after continuing their strong start to the season with a win over Manchester United.

A hapless Red Devils had zero response to a composed performance by the Hammers who could have secured a more comfortable victory than their 2-0 suggested.

Manuel Pellegrini has finally settled into his role at the London Stadium. After an inconsistent first season in charge, the Chilean now has his feet firmly under the table.

Yesterday saw the return of Aaron Cresswell at left-back. The Liverpool-born defender hadn’t played a league game since the opening day thrashing by Manchester City.

He returned with a vengeance against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team. Not only was his defending resolute, but he also netted a superb free-kick to put the seal on a fine win for the Hammers.

Cresswell has played in 182 games for West Ham and on this performance, he could become a mainstay in Pellegrini’s team once again.

His stunning set-piece had David de Gea stranded and saw the West Ham faithful lift the roof from the stadium.

The Hammers face Oxford United in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening before travelling to Bournemouth on Saturday.
