West Ham target could provide wow factor missing since French genius

West Ham United are said to be targeting Villarreal star Pablo Fornals.

, the Hammers have set their sights on the silky Spaniard and cooled their interest in Celta Vigo ace Stanislav Lobotka.

The club’s director of football Mario Husillos has been in contact with the Spanish club about a possible transfer for the 23-year-old, whom he knows well from their time at Malaga.

Apparently a £24 million offer is being prepared for the attacking midfielder.

Last term, Fornals was one of the standout players for Villarreal, making 50 appearances and contributing to 11 goals (five goals, six assists).

TBR’s view

Fornals’ statistics may not seem overly impressive, but the star is undoubtedly one of Villarreal’s best players.

One thing about Fornals is that he likes to entertain.

He is a player who has that wow factor and the ability to lift fans off their seats, and perhaps he can take over Dimitri Payet’s mantle.

His exit was messy, but the Frenchman was a genius at times during his one-and-a-half-season stint at the club, and his flair has not really been seen since he left.

Fornals is a mazy dribbler and has that eye for a killer through ball, just as Payet did.

The two-cap Spain international appears more comfortable operating centrally though, whereas Payet tended to dazzle from the left.
