West Ham: Summer signing nearly joined Napoli; injury returns; Lanzini quotes to fans
West Ham fans are excited about the signing of Simone Zaza, but .
“There was a strong contact with Napoli, then we didn’t hear from them, and they did not even explain why.
“I have no problem saying that his proposal was also very important. Then, however, we did not hear anything.
“Simone has never refused Naples, this must be clear. He would wear more than willingly the blue shirt, anyone to think otherwise.
“Thank God, we were spoilt for choice and there was the important proposal of West Ham, a great project.”
These are worrying quotes for West Ham supporters as they suggest that the Italian would have preferred a move to Napoli. The club’s search for a striker was well documented and Zaza wasn’t their first choice, but they weren’t his either. It will be a tough move for him, as he needs to adjust to the Premier League. His strike rate in Serie A was good, despite being used sparingly at Juventus. Zaza will expect regular football at West Ham, but he will face competition from Andy Carroll and requires a strong start while the Englishman is out injured. If he does score this weekend, these quotes from his father will quickly be forgotten.
The international break came at a good time for West Ham, as they were suffering with injuries and were struggling on the pitch as a result. They have picked up three points, which isn’t a bad return, but they will be hoping to push on in September. reports that the club are hopeful both Dimitri Payet and Sofiane Feghouli will be fit to start against Watford this weekend. The former has played just 24 minutes of league football this season, while the latter has yet to make his Premier League debut for the club.
They will provide West Ham with creativity, which was lacking during the opening three matches. Payet is the playmaker of the side and everything goes through him. He has been clearly missed and having him back in the starting eleven will provide a mental boost as well as a technical one. Feghouli is an exciting winger who could turn out to be one of the signings of the summer after joining on a free transfer. The club have an array of attacking players, but these two could be the best of the lot and West Ham will be excited to see both on the pitch this weekend.
Finally, for how they have treated him since arriving at the club, before pledging his long-term future to the club.
“I’m very grateful to the West Ham fans. They’ve always treated me very well since I arrived and I really like them and their passion for the club. They’ve made me feel at home which is very important.
“I’m also very grateful to the board, the coaching staff and my teammates who’ve helped me settle in and make me feel at home.
“I’m happy to have signed a permanent deal here and will stay here for more years which is what I wanted, so I’m very pleased.
This is excellent news as Manuel Lanzini was great to watch last season and contributed seven goals, a very good return for a midfielder. The Argentine is pushing for a start this weekend and many expect him to have another impressive season for West Ham. He looks to find pockets of spaces in the final third and has a great relationship with Dimitri Payet. Despite the attacking signings made this summer, Lanzini and Payet are still expected to be the two key players for the club this season.
