West Ham striker Javier Hernandez eyed up by Serie A outfit Fiorentina
Italian club Fiorentina are keen on a swoop for West Ham United striker Javier Hernandez this summer,
They that the Serie A outfit want a more experienced parntner for Giovanni Simeone – son of Atletico Madrid manager Diego – and Chicharito is one of two names on their shortlist.
Benedetto of Boca Juniors is the other name in the frame, but the report says that Hernandez has just one year left on his £140,000-a-week () contract and no forthcoming prospect of a new one.
The issue for the Hammers is that Chicharito has not had the desired impact and £140,000 every week is a lot to be paying someone who isn’t hitting the back of the net on a regular enough basis.
Hernandez’s all-round game wasn’t good enough during his Manchester United days to be anything other than an impact sub and it’s been the same story at the London Stadium.
That has meant he’s often been a supersub – but the player himself isn’t likely to be happy with that status and the club will want more.
But with Marko Arnautovic off to China, Lucas Perez has returned to Spain and Andy Carroll has been released, the Hammers have already had a lot of striking churn this summer.
That may mean that it’s easier to keep Hernandez – most likely as backup to a new first-choice hitman – and be content with the savings on wages made by letting the aforementioned striking trio leave.
