West Ham star Darren Randolph sends defiant message to Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian
Adrian posted on Instagram after the Liverpool goalkeeper kept a clean sheet against Ajax despite enormous pressure and criticism on his shoulders from pundits and fans alike – and a West Ham player has sent a touching message to the Spaniard.
Adrian, 33, had conceded nine goals in his previous two Liverpool appearances – seven of which went in against Aston Villa. Despite a number of those seven being deflected, Adrian was heavily criticised for his performance.
In the shadow of injured Alisson, Adrian then conceded two more goals against Everton on Saturday – but he was hardly at fault for Dom Calvert-Lewin and Micheal Keane’s headers. He lined-up in goal again on Wednesday night against Ajax.
The clean sheet against Ajax was just Liverpool’s third of the season – following a 2-0 win over Chelsea and a penalty-shootout defeat to Arsenal in the Carabao Cup. Adrian was applauded for his display, making a number of decent saves.
Indeed, Adrian’s best moment of the night came when he stopped Quincy Promes’ effort from within the six-yard box. The Netherlands star looked nailed on to score, but £40,000-a-week () Adrian denied the attacker.
Adrian’s old West Ham teammate Darren Randolph took to his Instagram page after the win over Ajax to send the Spaniard a defiant message in the face of criticism – telling Adrian “opinions don’t pay the bills”. Jose Enrique also responded.
