West Ham should finally settle on their best full-back combination
The full-back positions have become increasingly more importantly recent in modern football, but it’s an area at West Ham that is not a settled one.
Manuel Pellegrini has deployed a mixture of combinations already this campaign, but he may have stumbled across his best one in the to Liverpool in their last game.
The Hammers have Pablo Zabaleta and Ryan Fredericks competing for the right-back slot, while Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku are the left-sided option.
After both impressed against Liverpool, West Ham should stick with Fredericks and Cresswell for the foreseeable future at the London Stadium.
The pairing have played just three games together all season, which was an FA Cup tie with Macclesfield and Premier League fixtures against Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Fredericks and Cresswell could be the best long-term solution in the defensive positions, as they provide the great balance needed for a full-back in the Premier League.
Pellegrini needs to try find some consistency in his starting XI and sticking with two full-backs should help.
Zabaleta is an ageing defender that is more than useful to have in the squad, but he should step aside to allow the more promising Fredericks get a run in the team.
Meanwhile, Masuaku is too much of a reliability defensively and Cresswell appears to be regaining his best form.
