West Ham round-up: Shock Ranieri claims; Tore blames team-mate; Randolph misses Boleyn Ground
Italian outlet have sensationally claimed that West Ham are pondering over launching a summer move for Claudio Ranieri with the Italian out of work after being fired by Leicester City as the reigning Premier League champions faced a relegation battle.
Stoke are also believed to be considering a move for the former Chelsea boss, but it seems unlikely given that Slaven Bilic is such a popular figure at the London Stadium and results are on the up with the club now pushing into the top half.
However, one of Bilic’s biggest mistakes this season was to sign a player who he worked with at Besiktas, Gokhan Tore. The winger spent much of the season out injured and has now told the :
“I was transferred to England at the beginning of the season. I picked up a knee injury in the pre-season camp in the summer which put me back 3-4 weeks from match form. After that I made a great effort to return to the first team. I went on to play six matches but there was another problem. During the preparations for the Crystal Palace match I was injured three minutes before the end of my workout. My team mate entered a tackle hard and I felt something in my knees. The doctors looked and decided to carry out surgery.”
It is unlikely that the Turkish international will make another appearance for the club, particularly given his woeful form even when he was fit, with it highly unlikely that the club will look to make the deal permanent in the summer.
One of the surprises of the season has been the good form of goalkeeper Darren Randolph in goal since he was given the nod over Adrian as the club’s number one, but Randolph has told the that he misses the club’s former home as he said:
“It took us a while to get settled in but now we’re in there playing it’s very good. Some nights the atmosphere and maybe the fear factor that the stadium had [is what we miss now]. Speaking to players from other teams, they didn’t like going to the Boleyn Ground.”
The former Birmingham shot stopper has kept five clean sheets in 20 appearances in all competitions so far this season but may face competition if the club look to bring in a goalkeeper in the summer.
