West Ham round-up: Liverpool target midfielder; favourites for striker; Bilic explains his temper

After making a comeback and becoming a key figure at the club, having been linked with a move away in the summer, the  claim that midfielder Pedro Obiang is attracting interest from Liverpool. They claim that a bid worth £18 million would have to be made for any talks to reach an agreement.

The Spaniard has been a regular of late, scoring against Southampton not long ago, and has proved many of his doubters wrong with his steely performances in midfield helping to protect a West Ham defence which failed to impress in the first half of the season but has improved in recent weeks.

However, the club could look to add to their squad with a signing as  make the Irons 7/1 favourites to sign former Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov after the Bulgarian featured in television coverage of the FA Cup tie between two of his former clubs as Fulham met the White Hart Lane outfit.

The 36-year-old scored five goals in 25 games at Greek club PAOK but has not featured for any club this season, with retirement seemingly a possibility if the Hammers or another club do not make a move for him. Crystal Palace and Sunderland are also considered potential destinations.

Slaven Bilic has also spoken out to offer an explanation for his poor behaviour on the touchline against West Brom which saw him and assistant Nikola Jurcevic both fined £8,000 each. He wrote in the :

“Everyone makes mistakes and both myself and my assistant manager, Nikola Jurcevic, will pay for ours following the £8,000 fine imposed on us for our actions during the match against West Brom. I shouldn’t have done what I did but it was a game we should and would have won if just one decision had gone our way. Of course, you don’t expect referees to get it all right because this is a game of mistakes and I make them — everyone makes them.”

Fortunately for the club, Bilic avoided a touchline ban and will still be available from the bench for the game against Watford at the weekend.
