West Ham Round-Up: Lacazette wants move; Sakho given return date; Obiang praises character
Despite having torrid luck in their search for a striker in the past two transfer windows, that could be about to change with Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette seeming to plead for a move. Both the and are reporting on quotes in an interview with in which he said:
“I think it’s come, the right moment. I think that this summer will be the time where I will need a change of scenery and discover something else, still with the idea of advancing and progressing in terms of football and as a person. I am going to continue to work, in the hope that good opportunities will come this summer.”
The 25-year-old has scored 18 goals in 18 Ligue 1 games so far this season, but with a reported asking price of £60 million and interest from Arsenal, it could still be tough for the Hammers to secure the signing of the Frenchman.
In the meantime, there has been for Slaven Bilic as it appears that Diafra Sakho is slowly nearing a return to fitness after a hamstring problem. David Gold said on that the forward would be back at the end of March after several months on the sidelines.
Sakho returned to the team in fine form and scored a crucial goal at Old Trafford before picking up the injury.
That will delight Bilic almost as much as the character that the Irons showed in an impressive victory over Southampton according to goal scoring midfielder Pedro Obiang, who told the :
“Before the Southampton game the manager emphasised that we are a good team but that we must show character and be compact. It’s the same with any game but this was different because the City match was so bad. When they scored their first goal, our heads went down. Against Southampton, they also scored first but our reaction was different and after the game the boss said: ‘This is the character we need to show. We need to keep going and you never know what might happen.'”
The improvement was clear for all to the see, particularly in the Spaniard’s performance as he scored at Saint Mary’s having been withdrawn early on in the clash with Manchester City only days before.
