West Ham round-up: Key man set for new deal; Bilic confirms Carroll bids; Chelsea star could join
believe that Slaven Bilic is finally set to agree on a new deal at the club to extend his contract beyond the 15 months remaining on his current agreement. The Croatian was due to hold talks before Christmas, but poor results meant that the negotiations were postponed but have now progressed with results improving.
Bilic is a popular figure at the club and amongst the fans and appears to be happy to continue at the club where he once played as a player. With the club now beginning to make up for a woeful first half of the season, such a show of support is not a surprise.
Bilic was busy yesterday in his pre-match press conference as he responded to rumours of interest in Andy Carroll as he told the :
“He’s one of our best players and we want to keep him. As far as I know the Chinese clubs sent their representatives to watch the game. I don’t know which club or clubs it was and apparently they were watching other players, but they fell in love with Andy. We turned down an offer… It didn’t affect our training or relationship with any of the players including Andy. Andy did hear about it and I suppose that he was flattered by that.”
The former Newcastle striker is clearly going nowhere anytime soon, with Bilic also revealing that the target man is expected to be available for the Hammers when they face Chelsea on Monday.
However, the claim that the Irons could make a summer move for one of the players who will be in the away dressing room on Monday night as they report that the Blues are ready to cut their losses on Belgian forward Michu Batshuayi after a £33 million summer move, with West Ham tracking the situation.
Batshuayi, who is yet to make his first Premier League start, has also attracted interest from France with a permanent or loan move possible.
