West Ham round-up: Attacking target set for move; Bilic discusses Payet loss; praise for new signing
West Ham are set for more frustration in their hunt for a striker as claim that one of their top targets, Fiorentina striker Nikola Kalinic who instead looks set to move to Chinese club Tianjin Quanjian for a fee beloved to be worth around £32.5 million for the Croatian.
The 29-year-old has scored 14 goals in 28 games for the Italian side so far this season but now looks set to depart and scupper hopes of a summer move to London, instead opting to join forces with former Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro.
Despite the loss of star man Dimitri Payet, Slaven Bilic has insisted that his side is stronger than ever. Bilic told the :
“It is the team who have responded to that. We lost a great player, but these things happen in football. The team have reacted in the best possible way. The boys have shown in those difficult situations that we aren’t going to sink, we’re not going to crumble. We had to take more responsibility as an individual and as a team, and that’s happened.”
The Frenchman left the club to join Marseille for a fee in the region of £25 million, but it was clear on Saturday afternoon that the Irons did not miss his presence as they romped to an impressive win.
Aaron Cresswell has spoken out to praise Payet’s replacement of sorts, Robert Snodgrass. The left-back played on the left flank alongside him at Saint Mary’s last weekend in victory over Southampton and Cresswell :
“Snods has been fantastic since he came into the Club. It is not easy when you move from one end of the country to the other and he has pretty much gone straight into the side. He started on Saturday and played in front of me and has fitted in straight away with the other lads and is a great lad. His performance showed that.”
The Scottish international has received praise from fans for his solid performance at the weekend, after having a disappointing debut as the Hammers were thrashed by Manchester City.
