West Ham reportedly table offer for player Lanzini thinks would suit Hammers

West Ham United have reportedly tabled an offer to sign Argentina international Gonzalo Montiel with the player’s River Plate contract due to expire in the summer – and Manuel Lanzini wanted him signed just last summer.

Montiel, 26, is out of contract in the summer and his future is looking more and more likely as if it is away from the London Stadium. However, the Hammers are not alone in their interest for the six-time Argentina star.

that West Ham are one of four European clubs to have tabled an offer for Montiel, along with French giants and last season’s Champions League semi-finalists Lyon.

Roma have also made an offer, as have ambitious Italian outfit Bologna. Back in the summer, West Ham were linked and Lanzini commented on those links – stating he thinks Montiel would be a good fit for the London side.

“I think Montiel would fit well at West Ham. I know they have looked at him. He asked me, I spoke to him, and told him the coach (Moyes) likes to play with three or five defenders behind,”

TBR’s view – Montiel would be a stunning West Ham addition

Vladimir Coufal has been a good signing for the Hammers. Defensively solid, he has contributed when going forward but he is hardly the long-term answer if West Ham see themselves as a club that can fight for Europe.

Montiel is a step up. If Coufal is a right-back for the mid-to-bottom Premier League sides, Montiel is one that is good enough for Europa League football. Certainly, he and Coufal would be excellent options for the right-back slot.
