West Ham now trying to sell ‘incredible’ player permanently with club wanting him on loan
West Ham United want to sell Flynn Downes permanently as Southampton look to sign the midfielder on loan this summer.
That is according to , which suggests that the 24-year-old could leave the London Stadium as the Hammers close in on two midfield signings.
Flynn Downes‘ time at West Ham looks set to be brief. The former Swansea City man struggled to make the step up following his switch last summer. Ultimately, he only managed to make seven starts in the Premier League last season.

The Times reports that West Ham are set to sign Ajax star Edson Alvarez. Meanwhile, suggested that they have now agreed a deal for James Ward-Prowse.
Ward-Prowse looks set to come in from Southampton. And it seems that Downes could move in the opposite direction, with his former Swans boss Russell Martin now at St Mary’s.
The Saints want to sign Downes on loan for the coming campaign as they look to secure promotion at the first attempt. But reports that West Ham are trying to offload him permanently.
The good news for West Ham is that it is a former manager targeting Downes. Martin will know exactly what the youngster is capable of. And they have a huge void to fill with Ward-Prowse seemingly on the verge of joining the Hammers.
He will not want to miss out on Downes. He has previously labelled him ‘‘. And the Saints do have money to spend.
It does feel like a move all parties want to sort out – one way or another. So it would be no surprise if they do manage to agree terms.
But a compromise is going to be needed somewhere along the line.
