West Ham now one step away from truly ‘great’ midfield signing

West Ham United are currently a hotbed of transfer activity, with multiple players said to be in talks over a move to the London Stadium.

The Hammers already have Luis Guilherme, Wes Foderingham and Max Kilman through the door, while Crysencio Summerville is reportedly close to joining.

West Ham also appear to be making good progress for Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Borussia Dortmund forward Niclas Fullkrug.

And on Friday, seemingly out of nowhere, speculation emerged claiming West Ham were closing in on a “great” midfielder.

Now, a report has claimed that the Hammers are just “one step away” from getting a deal over the line, and a medical could follow suit in the coming days.

West Ham closing in on Guido Rodriguez

The player in question is Guido Rodriguez, an Argentina international midfielder who is currently a free agent after leaving Real Betis this summer.

Fabrizio Romano claimed that the Hammers are in advanced talks to sign Rodriguez after he saw a move to Barcelona collapse.

Now, Argentine outlet have reported that the 30-year-old is ‘one step away’ from making the move to West Ham.

They go on to say that Rodriguez has ‘everything agreed’ with the east Londoners on a verbal basis.

Indeed, the expectation is that he will undergo a medical in the coming days before then signing a deal until 2027.

Barcelona’s loss could soon be West Ham’s gain

West Ham are eager to make further additions in August and, so far, they’re on the right track.

Speculation about Rodriguez makes sense, as he is a talented, experienced and tenacious player who won’t come with any transfer fees.

“Guido is a great player and can adapt to any team,” former teammate Chadi Riad told earlier this year.

Barcelona’s loss looks set to be West Ham’s gain, and it certainly looks like Julen Lopetegui is putting together a team determined to push for Europe once again.
