West Ham make contact to sign £21.4m Jean-Clair Todibo alternative compared to Raphael Varane
West Ham now appear to have given up waiting on Jean-Clair Todibo, as an alternative has been identified.
Julen Lopetegui is still hunting for a new central defender despite the £40m signing of Max Kilman from Wolves – as there are doubts over the future of Nayef Aguerd at the London Stadium.
So, who have West Ham now identified as a backup option instead of Jean-Clair Todibo? Let’s take a look…
West Ham make Yann Bisseck enquiry
A story from now states that West Ham have made contact with Inter Milan to ask about Yann Bisseck.
The Italian news outlet believe the Serie A champions value the German at a sum of €25m (£21.4m) after his excellent displays throughout pre-season, which represents a huge increase on the €7.5m (£6.4m) Inter Milan spent to sign the central defender from AGF in July 2023.
It comes after OGC Nice No.6 Todibo turned down a move to West Ham – Juventus are seemingly favourites to sign the Frenchman this summer.
Bisseck – who Football Talent Scout to Raphael Varane – made 16 appearances in Serie A last season, scoring two goals while also providing one assist.

The towering 6ft 5in defender is described as unsellable in the report from FC Inter News, and looks set to play a key role under Simone Inzaghi at the San Siro next season, so West Ham will surely find it difficult to strike an agreement this summer.
Alternatives for Tim Steidten to pursue
As aforesaid, Todibo has already snubbed West Ham, while a move for Bisseck seems tough, so let’s take a look at some alternatives Tim Steidten – Director of Football at the London Stadium – could sign.
Liverpool No.2 Joe Gomez is potentially an option for the Hammers.
A story from the claimed that Liverpool were ready to sell the England international to Newcastle earlier this summer for a fee of £45m before talks collapsed – a medical was even booked.
Therefore, if Liverpool end up signing Marc Guehi – who is a target for Arne Slot – or another defender, West Ham could make a move for Gomez, in our view.

Another option in central defence could be Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who West Ham are said to be close to signing from Manchester United.
The Londoner is a right-back by trade, but his exceptional tackling skills and defensive positioning could see him become an effective option in the centre.

Be sure to keep an eye on developments at the London Stadium, as we expect West Ham to sign at least one new central defender this summer.
