West Ham lined up 55-year-old to replace David Moyes until the summer in April last season

West Ham United had their next manager lined up when David Moyes was reportedly 90 minutes away from getting the sack in April last season.

David Moyes seemingly continues to divide opinion amongst West Ham fans. Of course, he will be forever loved for being the manager who oversaw their Europa Conference League win last year.

However, there is perhaps a sense that West Ham now have the squad and the opportunity to kick on to the next level. And there are doubts over whether Moyes is the right man to lead the club.

West Ham had just been beaten 5-1 at home by Newcastle. While the Irons were flying in Europe, the result left them outside of the Premier League relegation zone only on goal difference.

And it seems that Moyes would have potentially left the London Stadium had they then lost to Fulham a few days later.

The Telegraph claims that Slaven Bilic was lined up to take over, with Mark Noble assisting the Croatian. Bilic would have initially returned for the rest of the season.

Hammers vindicated for not making change, but another tough decision lies ahead

Of course, Moyes is in his second spell at West Ham. So it would make sense that the West Ham hierarchy would look at bringing Bilic back.

Ultimately, an own goal gave West Ham the win at Craven Cottage. And Moyes would go on to oversee one of the greatest nights in the club’s history.

For many, that night in Prague may have been the perfect time for Moyes to walk away. It says a lot that there is discontent when they could end the day sixth in the Premier League.

Some will suggest that that is West Ham fans demanding too much. But surely, they are entitled to ask whether they could be doing even better.
