West Ham in talks to sign £17m defender who Erik Ten Hag wants at Man United

West Ham have reportedly begun negotiations with a top European side to sign one player who is believed to be wanted by Erik Ten Hag’s Manchester United.

The Hammers have been quite busy this summer under new manager Julen Lopetegui, with the former Wolves and Real Madrid coach already bringing in Max Kilman from Molineux as well as Brazilian teenager Luis Guilherme.

With Jean-Clair Todibo and Alexis Saelemaekers also wanted by the Irons, West Ham aren’t stopping at all when it comes to new signings, with the east London side keen to make a huge statement this summer in regards to their incoming deals.

And West Ham are now in talks to land an impressive player.

West Ham pushing to sign Bayern Munich defender Noussair Mazraoui

According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, West Ham are in talks to sign Bayern Munich fullback Noussair Mazraoui, with the German giants open to selling the Morocco international this summer for €20m (£17m).

Plettenberg wrote: “West Ham, still pushing to sign Noussair Mazraoui! More talks with FC Bayern in the last hours. Bayern, more than willing to sell the 26 y/o. Bayern now demand at least €20m.

“No agreement with West Ham yet. Tim Steidten and Julen Lopetegui want him. Aaron Wan-Bissaka, the top alternative. Mazraoui, keen to play Premier League next season. He’s also on the list of Man Utd as revealed.”

With Ten Hag also keen on signing his former Ajax defender, West Ham getting ahead of United in the race for Mazraoui is nothing short of impressive, and the Irons landing the 26-year-old will feel like a huge win for Lopetegui heading into the new Premier League season.

West Ham beating United to Mazraoui would be a real statement of intent

Mazraoui has shown with the likes of Bayern and Ajax that he is a top fullback who can play at the highest level in Europe, and if West Ham can win the race for the Morrocan’s signature this summer over United, it would be quite the statement from the Irons.

As we know, the east London side are intent on qualifying for Europe heading into the new season, and a signing as impressive as Mazraoui could be exactly what the Hammers need to achieve this goal under their new manager.

Indeed, Mazraoui has all the qualities needed to thrive in the Premier League, and the defender’s eagerness to move to England could play into West Ham’s favour in talks with Bayern.
