West Ham fans react to the signing of Millwall goalkeeper Martin

Millwall goalkeeper David Martin will join West Ham United on July 1,

They that the experienced 33-year-old stopper will link up with the Hammers at the start of next month, having signed a two-year contract at the London Stadium – with the option to add a third.

Martin is the son of former Hammer Alvin, and was keen to emphasise that despite the fact he’s coming from a bitter rival in Millwall, he has claret and blue in his blood.

He : “Signing for West Ham United is a dream, both for me and my family. I’ve grown up around West Ham and to come to my boyhood club is a dream.

“I came to games as a kid at the Boleyn Ground. I loved watching my Dad play, and I’ve continued coming to games throughout my career. You can see the impact the fans can have on the team and it gives you goosebumps. The fans at West Ham are brilliant and it’s fantastic to be a part of this great club.”

It seems like a lovely move for Martin but many supporters can’t understand why their club have signed their second goalkeeper within a matter of days – after Roberto signed from Espanyol.

While there are other positions that need strengthening, backup goalkeepers to Lukasz Fabianski are not going to get the pulses racing, but the Hammers fans seem confused about why two have been needed to replace the outgoing Adrian…
