West Ham fans react as Winston Reid cscores for MLS side Sporting Kansas City

Winston Reid scored his first goal for MLS side Sporting Kansas City while on loan from West Ham United, helping his side beat Chicago Fire 1-0 on Wednesday night – and Hammers supporters have reacted on Twitter.

Reid, 32, joined Sporting Kansas on loan in February for the 2020 campaign, but has been made to wait for his debut due to the suspension of football. He eventually made that debut in August, coming in and out of the side as looks to regain his fitness.

The 25-time New Zealand international played his seventh match of the season on Wednesday night as Sporting Kansas hosted Chicago Fire. A beautiful corner from Scotland international Johnny Russell was headed home by Reid.

It was Reid’s first goal since Boxing Day in 2016 – when the powerful defender scored during a 4-1 away win over Swansea City for the Hammers. West Ham, meanwhile, are looking to sign a centre-back before the end of the domestic deadline.

David Moyes’ side failed to bring in a defender in the main transfer window, being blocked in a move to sign Chelsea’s Fikayo Tomori on loan in the final minutes of deadline day. Reid has a £70,000-a-week contract at West Ham until 2023.

West Ham supporters caught wind of Reid’s goal for Sporting Kansas, and many have urged their club to given the powerful defender a chance under Moyes – by bringing him back. The loan finishes at the end of December.
