West Ham fans react as club reportedly close to agreeing deal for midfielder
West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing Besiktas midfielder Gary Medel this summer and it is believed they are close to agreeing a deal �and Hammers fans have reacted on Twitter.
Turkish newspaper Fanatik have claimed that 31-year-old Medel could be set to move to east London this summer, with the report saying the Hammers and Besiktas are “close to an agreement�
Medel has less than 12 months remaining on his contract at Besiktas, and is likely to be sold in the coming weeks in order for Besiktas to bring in some cash for the experienced midfielder.
A former Cardiff City midfielder, Medel has enormous experience all over Europe and boasts 125 caps with Chile. He is renowned for his aggression in the middle of the park, and can also play at centre-back.
West Ham are likely to be on the lookout for a new central midfielder this summer as Spaniard Pedro Obiang looks set to leave the club and return to Italy, joining Serie A side Sassuolo.
West Ham fans reacted to the reported news that Medel could be the next name through the London Stadium doors, and it is a very much mixed reaction. Some believe he would be a decent addition, whereas others do not think he is good enough.

I realize Medel isn’t the best replacement for Obiang, but with the apparent lack of funds that we are said to have I would take him for the right price. Also with the lack of depth I feel like cover in the midfield is needed ASAP.

I really really really don’t want West Ham to sign Gary Medel. The thought of him and Sanchez in the same squad, let alone potential same XI, makes me want to puke.

We need a squad player to win the ball back, mark players out of games, keep position against dominant teams, be physical when needed. �That would replace Obiang effectively.
But I would argue in CM -in the first 11- we need a big step up in quality to make top 6.
