West Ham fans hail Felipe Anderson for Newport performance

West Ham recorded a 2-0 away victory against League Two opponents Newport County on Tuesday night – and some of the club’s supporters were impressed by the performance of Felipe Anderson.

The Hammers have booked their spot in the third round of the Carabao Cup after avoiding a potential upset away from home.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini made 10 changes to his team and they did a professional job against low league opposition.

Anderson was named on the bench against Newport, but entered the action after only eight minutes following an injury to Michail Antonio.

He laid on the assist for Pablo Fornals’ goal in the second-half, while Jack Wilshere had earlier opened the scoring just before half-time when he capitalised on a defensive mistake and finished into the bottom corner.

A selection of West Ham supporters on social media picked out Anderson as a talisman for the win over Newport and one claimed he “pulled the strings” in the final third.

The Brazilian wide man appears to be rediscovering his best form and will be keen to build on a decent debut campaign at the London Stadium last year.

He’s a 26-year-old left-winger that caused Newport real problems with his pace and trickery, something he’s capable of doing against Premier League defences too.
