West Ham fans gutted as Arthur Masuaku undergoes surgery

West Ham supporters have expressed their dismay, after Arthur Masuaku explained he has undergone surgery, in a now-deleted Instagram Stories post.

The defender to inform fans that he has gone under the knife.

He wrote, : “Hi everyone, I hope you are all good.

“Today I’m having a knee surgery to help me remove the pain that’s been bothering me for nearly two years now. It’s been a very difficult decision to make but for my good being and the rest of my career I have to make it.

“I’ll be giving updates here through my recovery and will see you soon again on the field. I wish my teammates/brothers the very best.”

The update comes relatively out of the blue, with manager David Moyes not mentioning anything about the full-back’s condition at his press conference today.

Masuaku being unavailable – and it is not clear at this stage how long he could be out for, although surgery isn’t a great sign – for West Ham is a big blow, with the 27-year-old having been enjoying a new lease of life in the new system that uses wing-backs.

The attack-minded star has been great with Aaron Cresswell covering the space behind him, and fans have been consistently impressed with his performances this term.

On social media, some Irons fans were gutted and shocked by Masuaku’s bombshell, which is sure to be put to Moyes before kick-off against Leeds United tomorrow night.
