West Ham fans applaud Andriy Yarmolenko after stunning Ukraine assist against Spain

Andriy Yarmolenko played a crucial part in Ukraine’s surprise 1-0 win over Spain in Tuesday night’s Nations League clash, as he laid on a superb assist – and West Ham United supporters have applauded their winger on Twitter.

Yarmolenko, 30, has endured a difficult time at West Ham since joining the club in the summer of 2018 for a fee of £17.5million (). Just 35 appearances came in his first two seasons, with injury hampering his progress at the London Stadium.

However, this season, the former Borussia Dortmund and Dynamo Kiev legend has rediscovered his form. Making five appearances, Yarmolenko has had a hand in five goals – scoring two goals and creating three more.

But the winger has only made two substitute appearances in the Premier League – with Yarmolenko’s form coming in the Carabao Cup. He has since remained an unused substitute in the Hammers’ last two Premier League games.

Despite his indifferent game time with the Hammers, Yarmolenko lasted the entire 90 minutes as Ukraine ripped up the script to beat Spain. He laid on a stunning assist, curling a left-footed pass into the path of Dynamo Kiev’s Viktor Tsyhankov.

The latter went through on goal and finished superbly past Manchester United’s David De Gea – though the goalkeeper’s effort to save the shot has come into question. Hammers fans, though, applauded their £115k-a-week winger on Twitter.
