West Ham fans applaud Aaron Cresswell as Hammers beat Leeds

West Ham United maintained their push for a place in the top four and Champions League qualification with an excellent 2-0 win over Leeds United at the London Stadium – and Hammers fans have applauded Aaron Cresswell.

The Hammers came into the match having won three of their last five Premier League matches – losing to Manchester City and drawing with Fulham, and came up against a side in Leeds who had lost three of their last four.

Leeds made an early start, having disallowed goals through Tyler Roberts and Patrick Bamford. The first, disallowed as Helder Costa was inches offside – before the ball was deemed to have gone out of play before Bamford netted.

West Ham capitalised. The first came when Jesse Lingard’s run saw him win a penalty and although Illan Meslier saved his spot-kick, Lingard tapped home. It was two when Craig Dawson headed home Cresswell’s corner.

The 31-year-old, who is closing in on 250 appearances for the Hammers since his £4million move in 2014 (), produced his seventh assist of the season for loanee Dawson. He now has 242 matches in claret and blue to his name.

West Ham fans reacted to their left-back’s display, and while some simply praised his performance – many suggested he should be a candidate for this summer’s European Championships.
