West Ham: Defoe negotiations latest; Payet wants to leave; bid for Hogan rejected

West Ham are locked in negotiations with Sunderland over an attempted deal to bring former youth product Jermain Defoe back to the club, after the Black Cats already turned down a £6 million bid for the forward, say . Now, the Hammers are said to have asked Sunderland to name how much they would like to sell the 34-year-old.

Sunderland are reportedly desperate to return their top goalscorer who has led their goalscoring charts for the club since he signed for them from Toronto. However, the Irons are expected to go back in with another offer to test their resolve.

claim that Dimitri Payet has been convinced that he must leave West Ham and make a return to his former club Marseille as they prepare to launch a move for the attacking midfielder. Manager Rudi Garcia has supposedly been in contact with Payet for over a month in an attempt to persuade him that he should return and his persistence has seemingly paid off.

Payet has hinted at an exit numerous times already this season but there are no reports yet of a concrete bid for the 29-year-old, with the London Stadium outfit desperate to retain their man who still has four and a half years to run on his existing contract.

An alternative to Defoe may be Brentford striker Scott Hogan, who has already scored 14 goals in 25 Championship games this season. The claim that West Ham have already had a £10 million bid rejected for the 24-year-old as the Bees demand a bid of at least £15 million to allow him to leave.

The former Rochdale man has earned rave reviews from his superb displays in west London and could now make the switch to the other side of the capital to test his skills in the Premier League as an option for Slaven Bilic.
