West Ham boss David Moyes says he would sign Chelsea star Billy Gilmour, if possible
that if he could sign any Scottish player for his West Ham United side right now, it would be Chelsea wonderkid Billy Gilmour.
Gilmour, 18, broke into the senior Chelsea side just weeks before the global health crisis struck. He has made seven appearances for the Blues this season, but caught the eye in an FA Cup win over Liverpool and a 4-0 thrashing of Everton.
Produced by Rangers, Gilmour has enormous talent but is also being under the watchful eye of Scottish media and pundits – with the midfielder eyed as one of the best products from Scottish football in many years.
However, Gilmour seems to be coping with the pressure and a Scotland call-up is surely in the offing. Asked if he could sign any Scottish footballer right now, Moyes put aside rivalries between Chelsea and West Ham to choose Gilmour.

“One that, if I could sign tomorrow, it would be Billy Gilmour based on his recent performances for Chelsea,” . “He looks like a seasoned pro. He looks like somebody who is hungry, as if he’s in love with the game.
“He’s typical of what my memories are of Scottish players are like going back many years. We were all really good players, really talented. In the short period we’ve seen of him, Billy Gilmour looks like that.”
TBR’s view – Chelsea will see Gilmour as completely indispensable
Last summer, interested clubs may have had a chance of taking him on loan – and even in January a Championship club could have lured the teenage midfielder down a division to gain some experience.
But Frank Lampard has thrown his faith into the Scottish star’s ability, and he has been repaid by Gilmour. With the Scot likely to be entrusted with a role in midfield after the crisis, there is no way Chelsea will let Gilmour leave for any price.
