West Ham are now close to signing ‘special’ player as talks progress

West Ham are reportedly closing in on the signing of a Euro 2024 star in what could be one of the surprise deals of the summer.

The Irons have been busy this window in adding to their squad, with West Ham believed to be interested in Elye Wahi having already signed the likes of Max Kilman, Luis Guilherme and Wes Foderingham this summer.

With West Ham also in talks to sign Marc Pubill, Julen Lopetegui has a clear vision of what he wants to do with the Hammers this summer, who heading into the new Premier League season could be a surprise package under the Spanish manager.

West Ham closing in on deal to sign Germany star Niclas Fullkrug

According to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, West Ham are advancing in talks to sign Germany star and Borussia Dortmund striker Niclas Fullkrug, who impressed at this summer’s Euros for the host nation.

Sheth posted on Twitter: “West Ham United advancing on deal for Borussia Dortmund forward Niclas Fullkrug. Still work to do on structure of fee & personal terms. Talks understood to be progressing positively – cautious optimism a deal can be struck.”

Lauded by Hansi Flick as a ‘special’ striker as per , the 31-year-old attacker could be a good fit for the Hammers and their problems in the centre-forward position given just how good the German has been over the years.

15 goals last year in all competitions for Dortmund coupled with two more at Euro 2024 is an encouraging sign for West Ham fans if this deal was to go through, with Fullkrug potentially the missing piece of the puzzle for the Irons in their quest to return to Europe.

Fullkrug could lift West Ham’s striker curse once and for all

West Ham’s striker curse is well known amongst supporters, with the Hammers signing dozens of centre-forwards in recent years with few success stories ever emerging, with Michail Antonio still the east London side’s best player in the position in the past few seasons.

Yet there’s good reason to believe that Fullkrug could be the man to lift the curse once and for all for West Ham, with the Irons yet to sign a player anything like the Germany international in recent windows.

Fullkrug’s story is one of the best in football having only come into the main public eye since 2022 at the age of 29, and two years later, the Germany and Dortmund star could be the man to resolve West Ham’s issues in the striker position once and for all.
