West Brom ironing out final details of Chris Wilder contract to replace Sam Allardyce
According to t♑he , West Brom are ironing out the final details of a contract for Chris Wilder.
The former Sheffield United boss will fill the vacant Hawthorns hot seat after following the Baggies’ relegation. West Brom finished the Premi🔯er League season from safety and with the division’s worst defensive record.
Wilder is West Brom’s first-choice to replace Allardyce and are focusing on getting a deal over the line. Frank Lampard, David Wagner and Michael Appleton were also under consider𒈔ation, but are considered less favourable.
West Brom have spoken with Wilder, who has outlined his plans to guide the club back into the Premier League. The🗹 53-year-old is 🌜also keen to return to management two months on from there.
Wilder left Bramall Lane as he disagreed with the club’s owners over their vision for 🐼the future. But he feels West Brom’s hierarchy share the same plans as his and could begin overhauling the Baggies’ squad soon.
Wilder has sto♔od out as the prime candidate to West Brom as they like his no-nonsense approach to management. His track record is appealing, as well, after finishing as runners-up to Norwich City in the 2018/19 Championship season.
He also secured promotions with Ox🧸ford and Northampton Town before joining the Blades in 2016. Wilder oversaw in charge at Bramall Lane, winning 106 and drawi𒀰ng 44.
TBR’s view: Wilder is perfect for West Brom
The note West Brom considered appointing Wilder in 2019 but he did not entertain discussions having just secured promotion. Instead,♛ they appointed Slaven Bilic w☂ho would secure promotion but was after 18 months in charge.
As West Brom continued to keep tabs on Wilder and admired his efforts to secure a ninth-place finish in Sheffield United’s first season back in the Premier Le🔥ague, he is noꦍw the ideal candidate to replace Allardyce at the Hawthorns.
Wilder stands out as the ide✃al candidate for numerous reasons. West Brom clearly admire him and his no-nonsense approach, which will get players in line. His track-record could also see the Baggies become promotion candidate▨s from the off, even if they can not keep most of their current players at the club.
He also has an admirer in Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola. The Spaniard admir🎐es Wilder as a coach aꦕnd added via the : “I’m incredibly impressed by them. When people say you can improve by watching others, this is the one.”
Wilder utilised a lot of the players he secured promotion with in Sheffield United’s first season in the Premier Leagꦯue. He clearly thinks West Brom have players he can work with, and – importantly – should have the backing of the Baggies’ board to do w💧hatever it takes to get back to the top.
