Wesley Sneijder comments on Arsenal’s reported interest in Andre Onana, delivers damning verdict

as saying that he would rather Ajax goal🐲keeper Andre Onana did not join Arsenal. Following the reduction of his suspension after appeal, Onana is expected to jo𒉰in Arsenal – but Sneijder named two other clubs he would rather Onana signs for.

Onana, 25, has endured a tricky 2021. At the beginning of the year, he was banned by the The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) – after testing positive for a banned substan🅠ce. It is believed the substance was a weight loss pill Onana mistakenly took, believing it was aspirin.

CAS handed him a 12-month ban, and he has since served four months of that. Now, it has been reduced to nine months – meaning he will be back available in November. that Arsenal will have to pay just £7million for Onana ✨this summe♛r, if they want to sign the Cameroon ace.

Asked about Arsenal reportedly closing in on a move for the Ajax goalkeeper – who has 83 clean sheets in 204 games – Snei🦹jder responded. He would prefer to see Onana join a club like Barcelona or Real Madrid this summer, the latter of which he played for. He feels Arsenal is a bad ꦑmove.

“I expect him to leave. I think he’s a great goalkeeper,” . He was then posed with the possibility of Onana moving to North London: “I’d rather not see him at Arsenal. It’s a nice club, but they’ve slipped a lot in recent years.𒐪 I raꦺther see him play at Real Madrid or FC Barcelona.”

Onana would be brilliant for Arsenal, but Sneijder has a point

Even with his ban, is Onana too good for Arsenal? The goalkeeper has been excellent for Ajax over the years. Surely, he is of the standard that needs to be playing Champions League football – or at lea♔st in Europe? Arsenal failed to qua🎀lify even for the European Conference League for 2021-22.

Barcelona and Real Madrid might 🌠be beyond Onana, though. If he is to join a new club, he will like to be first choice. At B𒀰arca, he will not get past Marc-Andre ter Stegen and at Madrid, Thibaut Courtois is first choice. At Arsenal at least, he knows he would be first choice above Bernd Leno.
