Weekend result could see Villa move ahead of Derby in race for available Ampadu
Aston Villa are light in central defence to the extent that Dean Smith has re-added to his training group with a view to potentially getting the outcast back to full fitness.
So it was little surprise to see them with Chelsea starlet Ethan Ampadu in recent days, although they will face tough competition for his signature.
One of the other clubs for a loan deal for the Welsh international are Derby County, but Villa have received a double boost that surely puts them ahead.
that Ampadu is actually available for loan in the second part of the season. Maurizio Sarri has examined his defensive options and believes a move away will help the promising defender’s development.

On top of that, Villa landed a blow on the Rams by thumping them 3-0 on Saturday. If Ampadu needed help choosing between the two clubs, that comprehensive victory isn’t going to do Smith’s cause any harm.
Both clubs will be looking to use their Chelsea connections to snare Ampadu. The Rams can offer tutelage under Blues legend Frank Lampard, but as a central defender, Ampadu may opt for coaching from Villa assistant boss John Terry.
