‘We will’… Ipswich Town star delivers confident verdict on promotion race with Leeds United
Leeds United sit top of the Championship table, but only on goal difference ahead of Leicester City – while Ipswich Town are a point behind in third. With eight games to go, the race to go up is close.
Leeds and Ipswich both picked up wins before the international break and with Leicester in action in The FA Cup – it made the race for the top two incredibly tight. Leeds have now gone top of the second tier.
With eight games to play in the Championship, and having won 12 of the last 13 league games as well as keeping 10 clean sheets – Leeds look good to finish in one of the top two spots. An instant promotion.
But anything can happen at this stage. Leeds are next in action on Good Friday, but only after Leicester and Ipswich are in action earlier on in the day – before our trip to the inconsistent Watford in the evening.

Ipswich Town star Vaclac Hladky on promotion race with Leeds
This is not Daniel Farke’s first rodeo. He’s done this twice before, he knows when to time momentum and is capable of conjuring it from nowhere. Over Christmas, Leeds looked miles away from promotion.
But Farke knows the Championship and he pulled on the strings just at the right time. The consistency of this Leeds side makes them favourites to win the title right now, with Leicester starting to tail off.
Ipswich have won some big games but are capable of the mess they encountered in the final knockings over in Wales, against Cardiff. Ipswich man Hladky spoke to the about the race for the top two.
“Eight big games, we want to be prepared as much as we can. There’s always belief. Been that way for two years now. The biggest belief is we can win every single game. We will start with the next game.”

Who has the easiest run in – Leeds, Ipswich or Leicester?
Leeds play a few mid-table sides. Watford, Coventry, Sunderland, Blackburn and Middlesbrough – five of Leeds’ remaining eight games – sit between eighth in the table, and 17th. Opposite ends of mid-table.
Hull and Southampton – the latter on the final day of the season – but also struggling QPR. A solid run-in. Leicester of course, have a game in hand. They play Norwich, Southampton, Preston and West Brom.
Tricky run in for Ipswich, too. Southampton, Norwich, Hull and Coventry are four of their eight league matches. Leeds have the best run in, the most momentum. But this is Leeds – anything can happen.
For now, Leeds will be watching on nervously as five of their players go head to head on Thursday night – with Wales facing Iceland in a Euro 2024 play-off in Cardiff. Four Wales stars, vs Glen Kamara.
