‘We could see’… ‘Superb’ 24-year-old tipped for summer interest after Celtic swiftly reject January bid

Celtic have been told to expect summer interest in Stephen Welsh after Anthony Joseph revealed the club ‘quickly rejected’ a bid from Germany for the 24-year-old.

Welsh has been the subject of many transfer rumours over the past few seasons but it is clear that Celtic want to hold onto the highly-rated defender.

Labelled ‘‘ Sky Sports journalist, Anthony Joseph, has shared how Celtic rejected a mystery bid from a club in Germany in January and has told the club to brace themselves for more interest in the summer.

Joseph said [], “Other players that could have gone, I mean Stephen Welsh, I understand Celtic very quickly knocked back a loan with option to buy bids from a team in Germany.

“Celtic have knocked back a few bids now over the years from the likes of Udinese and Toulouse. All loans with the option to buy bids.

“There’s something that the European leagues in Italy, France and Germany they like about Stephen Welsh and there’s a lot that Celtic like about him as well.

“So they’ve kept them they’ve signed him up on a new deal and they’re in a strong position. But I think we could see more interest in Welsh in the summer.”

Welsh’s start to the season at Celtic was hampered with an ankle injury and the brilliant form of Liam Scales and Cameron Carter-Vickers.

The academy graduate has made 58 first-team appearances in the Hoops but has, so far, failed to cement a regular starting spot in the side. []

However, Welsh now has that chance after the injury to Carter-Vickers and the poor performance of Maik Nawrocki in yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Aberdeen.

Whether he can oust Liam Scales when Carter-Vickers returns from injury is another matter entirely. If he can’t then maybe a move out of Celtic in the summer may be the best for the young man’s career.
