Wayne Rooney says whether Tottenham should sack Ange Postecoglou after comparing him to Louis van Gaal
Ange Postecoglou’s position as manager of Tottenham Hotspur is understandably under threat, a club who have taken just one point from a possible 21 in the Premier League.
Tottenham have won just one of their last 10 Premier League games and are 15th in the league – whichever way you spin the numbers, it’s not good reading for Postecoglou.
Of course, the context to this stunningly poor form has been an unpr🤡ecede♛nted injury crisis in N17.
Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
13 | 23 | 6 | 9 | 8 | 26 | 30 | -4 | 27 | |
14 | 23 | 7 | 6 | 10 | 28 | 44 | -16 | 27 | |
15 | 23 | 7 | 3 | 13 | 46 | 37 | 9 | 24 | |
16 | 22 | 5 | 8 | 9 | 19 | 28 | -9 | 23 | |
17 | 23 | 4 | 5 | 14 | 25 | 49 | -24 | 17 |
Spurs have almost been without their entire back line over the last few months, perhaps explaining why Micky van de Ven was rushed back too quickly just before Christmas.
It’s an incredibly difficult situation all round, and many are either now concluding that Postecoglou or Daniel Levy needs to go, the blame needs to be attributed som♏ewhere.
Wayne Rooney wants Ange Postecoglou to stay but still calls for Tottenham change
That being said, when speaking on the ‘Stick to Football’ podcast, Wayne Rooney shared his thoughts on Postecoglou’s position.
Roonไey was let go by Plymouth Argyle himself in the Championship recently, and appeared to have sympathy for Postecoglou.

The former Manchester United striker s🐎eems impressed by Postecoglou’s approach off-the-field at least, even if he did eventually call for some kind of change at the club.
Rooney said: “I hope he survives. I like him. I just ꦐlike his demeanour. I hope h෴e survives as well.
“𒀰There’s some [managers] who you look at and they annoy you.
“I just think with꧃ Ange, how honest he is, anꦓd sometimes, we had it with Van Gaal. Van Gaal used to do it.
“Sometimes you can be too honest. I think sometimes that comes back to kill you. But with Ange, I think the injuries d🐻༺ivide them.”
Rꦰooney then added: “I think something has to change. I don’t mean Ange, but something at that football club, in my opinion, has to change.”
Daniel Levy needs to back Ange Postecoglou before transfer deadline
In the same podcast, Ian Wright launched a stunning attack on Levy – he certainly didn’t hold back.
And it does seem pretty obvious that the status quo at Spurs isn’t working right now, a conclusion that isn’t just drawn fr♒om the club’s current league position.
Fortunately for Spurs fans hoping for improvement, the club are thought to♋ be upping their efforts in the transfer window now at least.
Tottenham are trying to sign Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich, a race that could pit𒈔 them against the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea.
A crucial few days for the club before Monday’s deadline, and Postecoglou does d🥃eserve to be backed with players who can helꦗp in the here and now.
