Wayne Rooney says manager Tottenham want to hire now is ‘fantastic’

Tottenham Hotspur may soon be searching for a new manager.

Indeed, Ange Postecoglou could be sacked at the end of the season, and, in that case, Tottenham will need to find a new head coach.

Postecoglou has been questioned a lot recently, while, behind-the-scenes Postecoglou has got on the wrong side of some of his players too.

Andoni Iraola is Tottenham’s top managerial target at the moment, and now, speaking to Amazon, Wayne Rooney has given the Spaniard his seal of approval.

Indeed, Rooney was asked to name who he believes have been the three best managers in the Premier League this season, and he gave Iraola a very special mention.

Wayne Rooney hails Andoni Iraola

Rooney named his top three managers of the season.

Rooney hailed a former Tottenham manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, in third place, while he picked Andoni Iraola in second, hailing him as ‘fantastic’ this season.

Meanwhile, Arne Slot has received plenty of praise this term, and Rooney named him as his Manager of the Season.

“My top three managers this season, in third place would be Nuno from Forest, an incredible season. In second place, Iraola from Bournemouth, they’ve had a fantastic season also, the way they play, the style they play is very energetic, he deserves to be in second place, and in first place I’d go Arne Slot,” Rooney said.

Mid-table managers who stepped up to the Big Six

Iraola certainly does seem like an exciting managerial prospect, but Tottenham may want to tread carefully here.

Indeed, while it always sounds exciting to hire a mid-table manager who is playing attractive football and performing above expectations, rarely in Premier League history has that ever worked out.

David Moyes, Graham Potter and Roy Hodgson were all abject failures after making steps up to big clubs.

Harry Redknapp and Mauricio Pochettino are perhaps the exceptions to these rules at Tottenham, but, Nuno Espirito Santo did fail at Spurs after joining from Wolves.

Iraola looks like a top managerial prospect, it must be said, but, often these mid-table managers don’t do well when they have to manage the biggest teams in the Premier League.
