Wayne Bridge says £18m Southampton player could easily sign for Chelsea

Despite spending millions upon millions of pounds in recent years, Chelsea still have work to do in this summer transfer window.

Indeed, Chelsea want a new striker this summer, with Liam Delap a concrete target for Chelsea, while Enzo Maresca’s side also need a new centre-back.

However, perhaps the biggest problem at Chelsea right now is in the goalkeeping department.

Indeed, Robert Sanchez has been heavily criticised this season, and Chelsea need an upgrade in that area.

Speaking on The Dressing Room Podcast, Wayne Bridge has now suggested a potential goalkeeping signing for Chelsea.

Wayne Bridge suggests Aaron Ramsdale for Chelsea

Bridge spoke about Aaron Ramsdale’s situation after Southampton’s relegation was confirmed.

The pundit says that he feels sorry for Ramsdale, believing him to be a very good goalkeeper who is capable of playing for a top club, such as Chelsea.

The man, was, of course, Arsenal’s number one a couple of years ago, but David Raya displaced him at the Emirates.

“He’s a good goalie, mate. Yeah. And I felt sorry for him going there,” Bridge said.

“I thought, do you know what? You’re earning your money going there. Yeah.

“And I feel for him. Even at Arsenal , I thought he just got dropped quite quick.

“But, mate, he could be Chelsea goalie. He could play for most teams in the Premier League. I think he’s really good.”

Aaron Ramsdale compared to Robert Sanchez

Sanchez does need replacing at Chelsea, that much is very clear, but there’s an argument to be made that Ramsdale wouldn’t be much better.

Yes, Ramsdale earned praise when he was at Arsenal, but, realistically, he’s only had two good seasons in his career.

Ramsdale has now been relegated on three occasions with three different clubs, and his stats from this season are poor.

Ramsdale isn’t the answer to Chelsea’s goalkeeping issues, the Blues need a goalie who is proven at the very top level, and, while Ramsdale does have top-level experience, there’s a reason Arsenal swiftly moved on from the England interational.

There are better options out there for Chelsea, that’s for sure.
