Watford transfer: Hornets reportedly bid for Blackburn striker

Watford have been knocked back after making a £15 million bid for Blackburn Rovers striker Adam Armstrong,

The Hornets have made the first move for the talisman but will have to up the ante if they are to prise him away from the Championship outfit.

Watford won promotion back to the Premier League last season. They finished second in the table behind Norwich, securing an instant return to the top-flight.

Ahead of their maiden season back in the top division, Xisco is clearly looking to add some firepower to his ranks.

Armstrong enjoyed a quality 2020/21 campaign. He was second behind Brentford’s Ivan Toney in the quest to be the Championship’s top goalscorer, notching 28 league goals.

Now he’s been targeted by several top-flight clubs, although the Hornets have made the first move.

Armstrong began his career at Newcastle and they have also shown an interest in their former striker.

He has taken some time to settle during his career but it’s fair to say he’s been an absolute revelation during his time at Ewood Park.

Boss Tony Mowbray won’t want to lose his main man in attack, although Watford will be undeterred in their efforts to sign him.

Watford must make another attempt to sign Armstrong

Although the first bid of £15 million has been knocked back for the 24-year-old, Watford can’t let themselves be defeated.

They must return with another bid and the Hornets could pull off a coup by landing the marksman.

He knows where the back of the net is and works incredibly hard for the team. As a result, he could be the ideal player to spearhead Watford’s attack during next season.

The Hornets will need to add a goalscorer to their ranks and why not Armstrong. He has proven himself in the second tier and he’d surely relish a move to the Premier League.
