Watford signing Glenn Murray should open door for Southampton to land Danny Welbeck – TBR View
Southampton are interested in signing Danny Welbeck and Watford may have just opened the door for a move by bringing in the experienced striker, Glenn Murray.
The Hornets the signing of Murray over the weekend. It is a move which brings the club an experienced striker who is proven at Championship level.

However, more importantly for Southampton, it could open the door for the Saints to ramp up their pursuit of Welbeck. claimed last week that the former England striker was a target for the Saints.
The former Man United and Arsenal man will be one of the bigger earners at Watford, so it could make sense for the club to move Welbeck on as quick as possible. Southampton, then, will be keeping close tabs on things for now.
A fine striker on his day, Welbeck will supplement Danny Ings nicely
Southampton finished last season with a flourish and were led brilliantly by Danny Ings, who smashed in the goals and finally looked like the player we all thought he would be when he moved to Liverpool a few years back.
But the Saints will need someone else on board to help Ings. And in Welbeck, they’d be getting a striker who, on his day, is a proven catch at Premier League level and still has plenty to offer.

The signing of Murray for Watford suggests that the Hornets are potentially accepting that Welbeck will move on. That, of course, is a massive boost for the Saints.
At a £5.5m, too, there won’t be many bigger bargains out there in the market at the moment.
So, with Murray on board and Southampton willing to bring new players in, the pieces may just be falling into place for Ralph Hassenhuttl in his pursuit of Welbeck.
