Victor Wanyama must take Tottenham chance against Barcelona
Victor Wanyama has a chance to impress for Tottenham against Barcelona on Wednesday evening and he simply must take it. The Kenyan international has been out of favour recently, but an injury crisis means he will start against Los Cules.
The 27-year-old has played just 52 minutes in the Premier League, which underlines his current position in the squad. It has baffled some, as it is thought Wanyama would add quality in the centre of the park and make Tottenham more difficult to break down.
Spurs haven’t looked at their best at the back, as they have conceded an average of one goal per game. A perfectionist such as Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping for better as the season progresses.
It will be a tough game against Barcelona, as the visitors are likely to dominate possession. Tottenham could be without Jan Vertonghen, Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Mousa Dembele, which leaves them severely weakened.
Although Wanyama is out of favour, he still has the quality to make an impact in a game as big as this one. He will look to be aggressive and unsettle the Barcelona midfield, while his physicality will be important for the home side.
A good performance from Wanyama could see the midfielder earn more starts in other competitions. He needs that to restart his Tottenham career.
