Wan-Bissaka can beat Alexander-Arnold in race to be long-term England right-back
Crystal Palace flier Aaron Wan-Bissaka is being lined up for a rapid progression into the England senior team,
The Three Lions play Czech Republic and Montenegro next month as their Euro 2020 qualification campaign kicks off and that Gareth Southgate has been to watch the young right-back three times within the last month.
They also that Southgate has sent Under 21 manager Aidy Boothroyd to meet the defender – who is also eligible to play for DR Congo – personally to convince him he remains very much a part of his plans.
Wan-Bissaka could be set for a starting role in those matches as his rapid rise continues apace and one of the players he will battle with is Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.

And the young Scouser has been identified by many as the potential long-term solution at right-back for both club and country since his emergence last season, but he is actually a central midfielder by trade.
Having two outstanding talents in one position is a welcome headache for Southgate – and the kind of scenario he wants to be in more often, given the dwindling amount of English players in the Premier League – but it may force Alexander-Arnold into midfield more regularly.
That may just be for country, or for club as well if Jurgen Klopp signs a big-money right-back, because Wan-Bissaka looks a more natural defender who is now hot on Alexander-Arnold’s trail.
